Dietary Cook
Prepare high quality food products according to standardized recipes and menus. Ensure food is ready to be served at established mealtimes. Adaptability to a variety of job duties and situations. Follow departmental procedures including sanitation, safety, and cleaning schedules.
Reports directly to Dietary Manager, indirectly to Executive Team; supervises no one; interacts with department employees, all other staff, patients, and occasionally visitors.
It is understood that the duties and responsibilities listed below are not all-inclusive and other appropriate, job-related tasks may be assigned by supervisor or Executive Team on an as-needed basis
Provides ethical and thorough service with customer orientation. Provide responsive service with courtesy, emotional support and understanding. Coordinates services as necessary and with accuracy.
Shows all team members and staff respect and courtesy. Demonstrates a positive attitude and is willingness to help. Shares information as necessary to complete assigned tasks and demonstrates appropriate follow-through.
Meeting attendance requirements is punctual and follows report-out protocols. Utilizes financial, human and material resources efficiently. Adheres to the hospital’s Code of Conduct and cooperates with the Compliance Program. Understands the HIPAA Privacy Act and maintains. Confidentiality. Generates positive, friendly attitude always, while demonstrating the under Provides accurate diet order to patients and meal service to doctors and employees as well as to visitors when directed. Must understand the responsibility of the food service to provide safe, nutritious, and high-quality food to the patients and staff. Continuous learning process by willingness to become involved in monthly education in-service.
Use initiative and judgment to set up meals, seasonal food, estimate food requirements, utilize leftovers, and present food in an attractive and palatable manner. Follows standard recipes and menus but makes frequent independent decisions relative to type of meal to be served and method of preparation. Sanitary and clean cooking area plus general cleaning as scheduled.
Properly put away all deliveries of food and supplies. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Prepare snacks as ordered, and H.S. Snacks.
Must be able to read, write, add, subtract, and comprehend and follow written and oral instructions. Moderate to heavy lifting, constantly on feet, lifting and carrying of various size pans and dishes that can be hot; pushing/pulling medium to heavy size carts (normally on wheels); and climbing ladders to reach food products and cooking supplies on high shelves.
Must adhere to 1) proper lifting technique (requesting assistance as needed); 2) safe ladder use (3-point contact always); 3) cleaning guidelines, including disinfection processes and protocols; 3) food preparation in accordance with individual patient dietary restrictions; and 4) proper preparation, portioning, and serving of foods in accordance with standardized recipes.
Food service experience required, and institutional cooking experience strongly preferred. Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent. _________________________________________________________________________________
