JOB DESCRIPTION
Registered Nurse (ER/Med-Surg)
Job Summary:
Provides direct patient care on assigned units using the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—within the framework of established policies and procedures of Cedar County Memorial Hospital (CCMH). Responsible for managing patient care and guiding ancillary staff to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Core Responsibilities
This role includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities
• Delivers patient-centered care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans
• Completes initial patient assessments within required timeframes
• Performs ongoing assessments and documents per unit standards
• Identifies and reports significant changes in patient condition promptly
• Interprets clinical data, including lab and diagnostic results
• Initiates and updates discharge planning beginning at admission
• Apply critical thinking to clinical decision-making and patient care priorities
• Provides appropriate and culturally competent care
Care Coordination & Communication
• Communicates care plans and updates effectively with healthcare team members
• Participates in shift reports and interdisciplinary collaboration
• Assists in organizing and prioritizing patient care based on acuity
• Supports continuity of care through accurate documentation
Leadership & Team Support
• Provides leadership in maintaining standards of care
• Guides and supports less experienced staff when appropriate
• Assists team members with patient care tasks as needed
• Floats to other units as required based on staffing needs
Safety, Compliance & Professional Standards
• Maintains current RN licensure in Missouri
• Maintains required certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS as applicable)
• Adheres to CCMH policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (CMS, OSHA)
• Reports and documents incidents accurately and promptly
• Recognizes and reports signs of abuse (child, elder, domestic)
• Maintains patient confidentiality and dignity at all times
Professional Development
• Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education
• Maintains clinical competency and completes required training
• Seeking opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge
Non-Essential Functions

Qualifications
Education & Licensure
• Current, unencumbered Missouri RN license
• Minimum: Associate degree or diploma in nursing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Proficiency with EMR systems and basic computer skills
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Demonstrated empathy and compassion
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Sound clinical judgment and decision-making ability
• Ability to prioritize tasks based on patient acuity
• Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
• Use equipment safely and seeks training when needed
• Functions efficiently in emergency situations
Physical Requirements
• Frequent standing and walking
• Occasional bending, lifting, pushing/pulling
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist with moving patients up to 300 lbs.
• Adequate vision, hearing, and dexterity for clinical tasks
Work Environment
• Indoor clinical setting with controlled temperature
• Exposure to stressful and high-acuity situations
• Interaction with patients who may be anxious or uncooperative
