IT Support Specialist

Job Summary:

With the ultimate goal of building and maintaining efficient, up-to-date computer systems and networks, this position supports the effective use of technology to enhance organizational sustainability. The IT Support Specialist is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer systems and networks to ensure optimal performance. This role also includes training users to ensure appropriate and effective use of IT infrastructure.

Core Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Promote the mission, vision, and values of CCMH
• Assist the IT Manager in maintaining a reliable IT environment using facility-specific hardware and software
• Set up workstations, including computers and peripheral devices (routers, printers, etc.)
• Inspect and ensure functionality of hardware (HDDs, keyboards, mice, etc.)
• Install and configure software and system functions according to specifications
• Develop and maintain local networks to optimize performance
• Ensure security and privacy of systems and networks
• Provide user training and guidance on software, hardware, and equipment usage
• Schedule and perform upgrades and maintenance with minimal workflow disruption
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues
• Maintain logs of repairs, fixes, and maintenance schedules
• Identify equipment needs and coordinate procurement
• Install, test, and monitor servers, firewalls, and new software
• Perform regular data backups
• Monitor server and LAN/WAN performance
• Oversee troubleshooting of networks, virus protection, Wi-Fi, intranet, and internet systems
• Maintain and update the facility website
• Manage and prioritize help desk requests
• Implement network system improvements as directed by the IT Manager
• Provide technical support via phone, remote access, or on-site visits
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity, equipment, and software issues

Accreditation & Regulatory Compliance Responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules for all systems and data
• Support adherence to standards set by The Joint Commission, including Environment of Care (EC), Information Management (IM), and Leadership (LD) standards
• Assist in maintaining compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation
• Participate in audit preparation, documentation, and corrective action plans related to IT systems
• Maintain system access controls, audit logs, and security monitoring in accordance with regulatory standards
• Ensure proper data backup, retention, and disaster recovery processes meet accreditation requirements
• Support cybersecurity readiness and incident response aligned with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) frameworks
• Assist with risk assessments, vulnerability management, and remediation efforts
• Maintain documentation required for surveys, audits, and inspections

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• Associate degree in IT Systems (or related field) with 2–3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a hospital setting
Additional Qualifications
• Proven experience as an IT Technician or similar role
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of computer systems, networks, and security principles
• Experience troubleshooting intermediate to advanced IT issues
• Familiarity with hospital systems, including EMR platforms
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional) preferred

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
• May require evening, weekend, or on-call work
• Work performed in climate-controlled environments with occasional outdoor activity
• Ability to work under pressure to maintain critical systems (including EMR)
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (assistance available if needed)
• Prolonged sitting (4–6 hours) and walking (2+ hours)
• Physical activities include bending, reaching, lifting, and manual dexterity
• Requires normal vision, hearing, and communication abilities
