Data Analyst
Job Summary:
The Data Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting clinical, financial, and operational data to support decision-making. This role translates data into actionable insights that improve patient outcomes, optimize resource utilization, support organizational performance improvement, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The analyst works closely with leadership and department managers to develop dashboards, monitor performance metrics, and identify opportunities for improvement.
The functions and duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
1. Data Collection & Management
• Extract and validate data from electronic health records (EHR), financial systems, departmental databases, and appropriate third-party data sources.
• Maintain data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across systems.
• Develop and manage data repositories for reporting and analysis.
2. Reporting & Dashboard Development
• Create and maintain dashboards and reports for hospital leadership and department managers.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to clinical quality, financial performance, and operations.
• Provide routine (daily, weekly, monthly) and ad-hoc reporting.
3. Clinical & Quality Analytics
• Analyze patient outcomes, including but not limited to readmissions, length of stay, and infection rates.
• Support quality improvement initiatives and performance reporting.
• Assist with required reporting to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulatory bodies.
4. Financial & Operational Analysis
• Monitor revenue cycle metrics, including but not limited to accounts receivable, denial rates, and payer mix.
• Conduct cost and profitability analyses by department and service line.
• Evaluate staffing efficiency, productivity, and resource utilization.
5. Regulatory & Compliance Reporting
• Prepare and submit required reports to state and federal agencies, including the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
• Ensure compliance with reporting standards and timelines.
• Maintain documentation supporting data accuracy and audit readiness.
6. Collaboration & Decision Support
• Partner with clinical, financial, and operational leaders to interpret data and support decision-making.
• Present findings in a clear, concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.
• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
7. Organizational Performance Improvement
• Recommend and implement data-driven improvements in workflows and organizational performance.
• Support strategic planning initiatives with data insights and forecasting.
• Assist in benchmarking against state and national performance metrics.
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Data Analytics, Finance, Statistics, or related field required
• Master’s degree preferred
Experience:
• 2–5 years of experience in healthcare data analysis or related field preferred
• Experience in a rural or critical hospital environment strongly preferred
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level required)
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, etc.
• Familiarity with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner or Meditech
• Knowledge of SQL or other data query languages preferred

• Understanding of healthcare operations, finance, and quality metrics
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently in a resource-limited rural environment
