Healthcare Controller
Department: Finance
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Position Summary:
Cedar County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Healthcare Controller to oversee and strengthen the financial operations of our rural healthcare organization. This role is responsible for managing general accounting functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting strategic financial planning.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in healthcare finance—preferably in a Critical Access Hospital—and values accuracy, collaboration, and operational efficiency. This position offers a hybrid work model, balancing on-site presence with remote flexibility while maintaining strong engagement with hospital leadership and departments.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Key Responsibilities:
• General Accounting Duties
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Prepare monthly statements
• Coordinates with accounts payable/payroll specialist
• Ensure timely and accurate journal entries and account reconciliations
• Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Develop and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes
• Assist in annual financial audit & cost report workpaper preparation
• Prepare reports for senior management and external stakeholders
• Compliance & Audit
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and healthcare-specific financial standards
• Coordinate and support internal and external audits

• Maintain documentation for audit and regulatory purposes
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative departments to support financial decision-making
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve financial performance
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
• Minimum 5 years of healthcare accounting experience, preferably in a Critical Access Hospital
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred:
• Experience with Medicare/Medicaid cost reporting
• Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare compliance standards
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge in Meditech accounting software
Working Conditions:
• Hybrid work model: Combination of on-site and remote work
o On-site presence is required each week.
• May require occasional extended hours during reporting or audit periods.
• Small, collaborative team environment with cross-functional interaction.
