Part-Time Float MA/LPN
Position Overview
The Part-Time Float MA/LPN supports clinic operations by providing coverage for staff absences, high-volume periods, and varying provider schedules across multiple specialties, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and specialty care. This position delivers patient-centered clinical support through rooming patients, assisting with procedures, administering medications and vaccines (within scope of practice), patient education, care coordination, and triage activities while maintaining efficient clinic operations.
Job Responsibilities
Provides patient care and clinical support in accordance with clinic protocols, provider orders, and scope of practice.
Rooms patients, obtains and documents vital signs, chief complaints, medication reconciliation, allergies, and medical history updates.
Triages patient phone calls and in-person concerns; identifies urgent needs and communicates appropriately to providers.
Administers medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as ordered and permitted by licensure and clinic policy.
Prepares patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments; assists providers during visits as needed.
Performs clinical procedures within scope of practice, including specimen collection, point-of-care testing, EKGs, wound care, and other delegated tasks.
Accurately documents patient assessments, interventions, provider communications, and patient education in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Provides patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, preventive care, and follow-up instructions.
Coordinates referrals, diagnostic testing, prescription requests, and follow-up appointments as directed.
Collaborates with physicians, providers, nurses, and support staff to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
Supports patient flow and assists in maintaining efficient clinic operations across multiple departments and specialties.
Monitors, orders, and restocks clinical supplies and maintains clean, organized examination and treatment areas.
Floats between clinic locations, providers, and specialties based on operational needs.
Works a flexible part-time schedule to provide coverage for vacations, call-ins, leaves of absence, and high-volume clinic days.
Demonstrates adaptability and professionalism while working with various clinic teams and patient populations.
Participates in staff meetings, training programs, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.
Maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements, infection control standards, and patient privacy regulations (HIPAA).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
For Medical Assistant (MA)
Current Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, NCMA, or equivalent) or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Current BLS certification required.
Previous clinic, ambulatory care, or outpatient experience preferred.
Knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient care practices.
Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
EMR experience preferred (Epic, Cerner, or equivalent).
For Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Missouri.
Current BLS certification required.
Previous clinic, ambulatory care, or outpatient experience preferred.
Strong assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
EMR experience preferred (Epic, Cerner, or equivalent).
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
Physical Requirements
Continual walking and standing.
Occasional sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, turning, and pushing/pulling objects from awkward positions.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with moving patients up to 300 pounds.
Vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills within normal limits.
Good manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
Environmental Conditions
Work environment is indoors and subject to varying temperatures as determined by heating and cooling systems.
Exposure to clinical and laboratory environments, including potential contact with infectious materials.
May be required to work under stressful situations and effectively manage anxious, upset, or uncooperative patients.
