Harvest for Health

Donate Gifts of Grain or Livestock

When a farmer sells grain and then gives cash, they pay self-employment tax and income tax on that sale first. By giving the grain directly to the hospital, they remove that income from their books entirely while still deducting the cost of growing it.

How it works

The farmer tells the elevator or the sale barn that they are donating bushels of grain or head of cattle to Cedar County Memorial Hospital and when the produce is sold, a check is cut to the hospital. The donor does not recognize the income of the sale.
