Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Night Shift
CCMH has an opening for a full-time Night CNA. Performs various patient care duties such as taking TPR’s, feeding and bathing patients, and other personal duties within the scope of training and as assigned by Charge Nurse. Maintains record of intake and output, collects specimens, etc. May perform minor cleaning duties. State certification required. Following is a summary list of the major job processes for a CNA at CCMH. Other duties within the scope of this field and specific training, both major and minor, may be required and assigned as necessary to provide high quality patient care. This list is not intended to be all inclusive and specific activities can change from time to time and patient to patient.
Job Responsibilities 1) Provides continual patient care under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, Nursing Staff and/or hospitalists and physicians. 2) Recognizes obvious changes in patient conditions and reports to the Charge Nurse, i.e., vital signs, skin, output, activity level, and unusual behavior. 3) Maintains a clean and safe environment, is familiar with the fire and disaster procedures, and maintains proper body mechanics when lifting and moving patients. 4) Completes assigned tasks in an efficient cost-effective manner with consideration to patient needs and completes appropriate activities that need to be done although not specifically assigned, within the scope of their practice and knowledge. 5)Seeks guidance and direction as necessary from the Charge Nurse, and Nursing Staff assigned to that patient. 6)Records data collection appropriately and accurately. 7) Projects a positive image of self and hospital by being courteous, respectful, helpful and friendly. 8) Maintains patient confidentiality. 9) Performs well in emergency situations under the direction of the Charge Nurse. 10) Performs other general duties as directed by the Charge Nurse. 11) Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-services. 12) Maintains copy of current license at all times; provides copy to HR and Nurse Manager. 13) Keeps BLS certification current and up to date. 14) Sets priorities for the delivery of quality patient care based on individualized patient needs. 15) Demonstrates effective time management by completing patient care assignments in a timely manner. 16) Engages in and commits to continuous improvement of skills through participation in educational opportunities whether offered on the job, within, or outside of the facility, to increase knowledge in the job field. 17) Demonstrates willingness to work on other nursing units as appropriate and within scope of training and ability, and floats to those units as necessary. 18) Able to function quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. 19) Demonstrates awareness of signs and symptoms of child abuse, elder abuse, spousal abuse, and patient abuse and promptly reports such concerns to the Charge Nurse. 20) Collects specimens from patients according to hospital policies and procedures. 21) Demonstrates the ability to use all equipment on the unit in a safe, correct, and effective manner. 22) Completes required competencies to observe patients that require one-on-one monitoring.

The following qualifications, experience, and skills are the minim necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements. 1) Certification requirements: Must possess a current Missouri certification to work as a Certified Nurse Aid. 2)Work experience: Required experience to be determined by specific unit. 3)Knowledge, Skills, and ability requirements: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. 4)Logic and Decision-making: Ability to prioritize assignments in accordance with urgency and patient needs to make credible decisions based on information available and willingness to respectfully ask questions concerning situations and request guidance and help from immediate supervisor. 5) Safe Work Habits: Must be cognizant of and understand the importance of always keeping self and patients safe, adhering to all facility, state, CMS and OSHA safety regulations.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions 1) Physical Requirements: Continual walking and standing; occasional sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting and turning, and pushing/pulling objects from awkward positions; ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. and to assist with moving patients up to 300 lbs.; vision, hearing, and speaking (verbal communication skills) within normal limits; good dexterity. 2) Environmental Conditions: Work environment is indoors and is within varying degrees of temperature (heated and air conditioned as outdoor temperatures dictate). At times, it may be required to work under stressful situations and must be able to cope with anxious and/or unruly patients.

Customer Service Requirements 1) Provides responsive, ethical, and thorough service with a positive “patient-first” orientation that includes emotional support, empathy, and understanding. 2) Coordinates service needs with timeliness and accuracy. 3) Demonstrates confidence and accuracy in all assignments with consistent turn-around time.
