JOB DESCRIPTION
Part-Time Float Nurse
Position Overview:
This part-time float nurse supports clinic operations by covering staff absences, high-volume periods, or multiple providers across specialties such as family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, or specialty care. The RN will assist with patient education, triage, medication administration, and coordination of care while maintaining a patient-first focus.
Job Relationships:
Reports directly to: Clinical Practice Manager
Responsible to: Physicians, Practice Providers, and Clinic Supervisors.
Job Responsibilities
•Provides direct patient care in accordance with clinic protocols and provider orders.
•Triages patient phone calls and in-person visits; identifies urgent needs and escalates appropriately.
•Administers medications and vaccines as ordered, including documentation and patient education.
•Prepare patients for exams and procedures; assist providers as needed during visits.
•Accurately documents assessments, interventions, and patient education in the electronic medical record (EMR).
•Collaborates with providers and care team members to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
•Provides patient education related to diagnoses, medications, lifestyle, and treatment plans.
•Supports discharge instructions and follow-up scheduling.
•Monitors and restocks clinical supplies and maintains a clean, organized patient care environment.
•Floats between clinic departments and specialties depending on staffing needs.
•Able to work a flexible part-time schedule including coverage for call-ins, vacations, and high-volume days.
•Demonstrates excellent communication and teamwork across various clinic teams.
•Maintains a calm, professional demeanor in fast-paced, multi-provider settings.
•Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and quality improvement activities.
•Maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements and patient privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA).
Minimum Requirements:
•Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri
•BLS certification (ACLS preferred or willingness to obtain if required by clinic)
•Previous clinic, ambulatory care, or outpatient experience preferred
•Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills
•EMR experience preferred (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or equivalent)
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
•Physical Requirements:
Continual walking and standing
Occasional sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting and turning, and pushing/pulling objects from awkward positions
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to assist with moving patients up to 300 lbs.
Vision, hearing, and speaking (verbal communication skills) within normal limits; good dexterity.
•Environmental Conditions:
Work environment is indoors and is within varying degrees of temperature (heated and air conditioned as outdoor temperatures dictate).
At times, you may be required to work under stressful situations and must be able to cope with anxious and/or unruly patients.
