Cedar County Memorial Hospital Board Highlights New Surgeons and Key Facility Remodels

July 17, 2026 - The Cedar County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) Board of Trustees, with all members present, convened on July 15 to review updates regarding medical staff expansion, positive revenue trends, and ongoing facility modernization projects.

Chief Executive Officer Don Carpenter presented an updated organizational chart, which the board approved. The streamlined chart consolidates departments and removes individual names below the executive level to improve overall operational efficiency. Additionally, hospital leadership is working with an external facilitator to hone a new three-year strategic plan, aiming to finalize the vision this fall ahead of the next budgeting cycle.

The hospital’s medical staff is expanding to meet community needs, with newly recruited orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard White and general surgeon Dr. Jeremy Staton holding their first clinic days this week. Both specialists already have surgeries scheduled, marking a major boost for local specialty care and local access to surgical services.

Chief Financial Officer Carla Gilbert reported strong revenue growth for the month, with June's gross operating revenue reaching $3,588,814—a 16% increase compared to June 2025. This growth helped reduce the month's net loss to $40,949 despite an 11% increase in operating expenses compared to June 2025, a total cost of $1,966,437.

To support this continued growth, the board approved construction and remodeling expenses presented by Chief Operating Officer Matthew Pruitt. These facility upgrade costs include additional construction expenses related to the new CT and MRI suite, remodeling two rooms to provide a new space for respiratory therapy, as well as remodeling the current respiratory therapy space to accommodate upcoming infusion and oncology services.

Chief Nursing Officer Jennie Noakes provided an update to the board regarding the hospital's pursuit of stroke center designation. The preparation and implementation process remains fully on track, with the formal application scheduled for submission this December.
